The Attachment of Air France to Polynesia started again by Marnix Fruitema
Today, President Flosse received the CEO of Air France – KLM North America, Marnix Fruitema and the Regional Delegate Air France in French Polynesia , Philippe Barbieri . The minister of tourism and aviation Geffry Salmon and the Special Advisor Michel Paoletti were also present at this interview.
He arrived yesterday for a first trip to French Polynesia, Marnix Fruitema will attend tomorrow the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Air France , a celebration to be shared with local teams of the airline company. The CEO of Air France -KLM from the North America region told the President his first very positive impressions on a destination he did not yet know personally. He was convinced that the French Polynesia was a unique tourist destination, with an undeniable charm and potential.
Philippe Barbieri, Regional Officer of Air France in French Polynesia , has presented the strategy implemented by the company last year to remain competitive in a challenging global economic environment. Air France has chosen in April 2012 to change the configuration of its aircraft and increase the capacity of the latter by deleting the first class and offering more seats in economy class. With 309 seats, the 777 of Air France have indeed the largest carrying capacity in French Polynesia today and the company has noticed an increase of 13% for passenger numbers over the last two years.
President Flosse and Minister Geffry Salmon took advantage of this meeting with Mr. Fruitema to discuss about the joint actions that could be implemented to increase the number of tourists in French Polynesia , in terms of promoting the Polynesian tourism product and the expansion into new markets , mainly in Europe , as Air France -KLM is present in many European cities.
Mr. Fruitema said he was willing to take part in the promotion of the destination and invited the President to submit all proposals that could go in this direction, particularly in view of the great tourist development projects in the country. He reminded the commitment of the company to French Polynesia and its desire to continue, for a long time, to make the worldwide tourists discover this destination.
